International Political Economy in Regional Architecture: EU Case Study

EU차원의 국제정치경제 사례연구

On April 2, the Graduate School of International Studies hosted a special lecture titled “International Political Economy in Regional Architecture: EU Case Study” in Room 703 of Building 301. The lecture was delivered by Professor Yoon Soongu, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University and former Ambassador to the European Union and NATO, who was invited to share his expertise on the evolving dynamics of international politics. He focused on the current situation within the EU region, analyizing the landscape of the US, China, and Russia, and shared the future strategies that EU may pursue.  

국제대학원은 지난 4월 2일 (수) 301관 703호에서 서울대학교 명예교수이자 한국외교협회 윤순구 교수(前 주 EU 및 NATO 대사)를 초청해 International Political Economy in Regional Architecture: EU Case Study / EU차원의 국제정치경제 사례연구 특별 강연을 진행했다.  윤순구 교수는 현재 국제정치 흐름을 기반으로 다양한 분야에서 EU 내의 현 상황과 미국, 중국, 러시아 등 주변국 상황을 분석하면서 향후 EU가 취할 전략을 설명하는 시간을 가졌다.

Key topics addressed during the lecture included:

- The EU’s current status and strategies in light of intensifying U.S.-China rivalry

- The EU’s response to U.S. tariff retaliation

- The EU’s role in the environmental sector

- The present state of European security

Professor Yoon underscored that the world has already entered an era in which mutual trust between major powers is increasingly difficult to sustain. He emphasized the urgent need for Europe to enhance its strategic competitiveness amid these shifting geopolitical dynamics. Following the lecture, a Q&A session provided participants the opportunity for deeper discussion and exchange of views on the complex challenges facing the EU today.

강연은 ▲미·중 갈등으로 인한 EU의 현 상황 및 타개 전략 ▲미국 관세 보복에 따른 EU의 전략 ▲환경 분야에서 EU의 역할 ▲EU 안보의 현 상황 등 최근 전세계의 귀추가 주목되는 주제들을 다루었다. 윤순구 교수는 현재 이미 상호신뢰를 할 수 없는 시대로 접어들었으며 유럽도 유럽만의 경쟁력을 키울 필요가 있다고 강조했다. 강연 후에는 참석자와 질의응답을 시간을 가지면서 더 깊이 있는 논의를 이어갔다.  

Meanwhile, second-year students from the AITP provided simultaneous interpretation in Korean-English, Korean-Chinese, and Korean-Russian.

한편, 이번 특강은 전문통번역학과 한·영, 한·러 2학년 재학생들이 전공언어로 동시통역을 지원했다.
