The Korean-English Advanced Interpretation and Translation Program (AITP) at GSIS-CAU aims to train students to become perfectly bilingual, first-rate interpreters and translators who can meet the demands of this age of cutting-edge technology

To this end, our faculty is composed of Korean/foreign full-time professors and offers quality courses geared towards one-on-one training, based on their extensive work experience in interpreting for international events and teaching careers in translation.

In addition to traditional conference interpreter courses (simultaneous & consecutive), advanced translation, and international studies, we incorporated the following new courses into the AITP curriculum in 2018 to meet this era’s demands: English Moderator Training, Technical Writing, English Presentation Skills, Localization, and Post-editing.

We are proud to note that GSIS-CAU AITP was the first in Korea to educate students on Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) (e.g. TRADOS) with specially-equipped lecture rooms and provide official certification exams free-of-charge, ensuring that AITP graduates can start building their career with appropriate knowledge and proficiency.

Korean-English AITP graduates currently work as in-house and freelance interpreters and translators in government ministries, prominent corporations (domestic and overseas), the media, research institutes, all at the forefront of advancing Korea’s interpretation and translation industry.

국제대학원 전문통번역학과 한영통번역전공의 교육 목표는 완벽하게 균형잡힌 이중언어능력과 최고의 전문통번역능력을 갖추고, 첨단기술시대의 새로운 수요에 적극 대처할 수 있는 전천후형 전문통번역사를 양성해내는데 있다. 이를 위해 풍부한 국제회의 통역경력과 통번역교육 경력을 함께 갖춘 국내인 전임교수들과 외국인 전임교수들이 함께 일대일 맞춤식 교육을 지향하는 교육을 진행하고 있다. 전통적인 회의통역(동시통역, 순차통역 포함)과 전문번역과목들, 배경지식 습득을 위한 국제정치경제를 포괄하는 국제학과목들 이외에도, 2018년 커리큘럼 개편을 단행하여, 영어 MC, technical writing, 영어 presentation, localization과 post-editing 등 첨단기술시대의 새로운 수요를 적극적으로 반영할 수 있는 과목들을 신설했다. 특히 국내통번역대학원으로는 최초로 첨단의 컴퓨터보조번역 소프트웨어(Trados 포함)를 교육할 수 있는 CAT 전용 강의실을 마련하고 공인인증자격시험을 무상으로 지원하는 등, 졸업생이라면 누구나 필요한 전문지식과 기술을 갖추고 시장에 진입할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다. 중앙대 AITP만의 독보적인 커리큘럼으로 교육받은 한영 통번역 전공 졸업생들은 다양한 정부부처, 굴지의 국내외 기업, 언론기관, 연구소 등 다양한 분야에 진출하여 인하우스 통번역사 또는 프리랜서 통번역사로서 국내 통번역분야 성장발전의 견인차 역할을 담당하고 있다.
