지난 11월 22일 문화예술관에서 국제대학원 전문통번역학과 개설 15주년을 기념하는 학술대회가 열렸다. 중앙대학교 국제대학원 전문통번역학과는 통역•번역학과 국제학간 융합으로 탄생한 독보적인 교육커리큘럼을 바탕으로 지난 15년간 통번역 교육에 있어 새로운 패러다임을 제시해왔다.

중앙대학교 통역번역연구소와 국가대전략연구소가 공동주최한 이번 학술대회는 “통번역의 미래를 모색하다”라는 주제로 통번역 전문가들과 국제대학원 교수진, 졸업생 및 재학생까지 약 120여명이 참석한 가운데 진행되었으며, 기계와 인간 통번역사를 대결 구도로 볼 것이 아니라, 기계와 인간이 협업할 수 있는 접점을 모색하고 통번역의 미래 비전을 제시하는 소중한 논의의 장을 마련했다.

1세션 “로컬라이제이션, 통번역의 새로운 패러다임”에서는 로컬라이제이션 전문가 세 명의 특별 강연이 진행되었고, 2세션은 국제대학원 원우회가 특별히 기획한 ‘졸업생 라운드 테이블’로 “통번역의 현재와 미래 비전”을 함께 고민하고 토론하는 시간을 가졌다.

On November 22nd, a conference to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of CAU AITP was held. CAU AITP has been providing a new paradigm based on the unparalleled curriculum which was created by combining interpretation/translation with International studies. 

Approximately 120 participated in this conference including interpretation/translation experts, faculty members, alumni, and students. This conference was a valuable venue to discuss the future vision of interpretation/translation and find ways to cooperate with machines. 

During the first session of "Localization, a new paradigm of interpretation/translation", 3 localization experts delivered their special lectures.

During the second session of "Alumni's Round Table", students and alumni discussed the current status and the future path of interpretation/translation.

전혜진 전문통번역학과 한•러 전공 교수가 개회식 사회를 보는 가운데, 조성일 중앙대학교 행정부총장 겸 통역번역연구소 소장이 개회사를 통해 “통번역 분야의 다양한 전문가들이 참여한 컨퍼런스인 만큼 실질적 협력을 강화할 수 있는 귀한 기회가 될 것입니다. 이번 통번역 학술대회에서 통번역의 새로운 미래 패러다임 창출을 위한 창의적이고 소중한 비전들이 다양하게 제시되기를 바랍니다.”라며 학술대회의 문을 활짝 열었다.

Professor Chun Hye-Jin was in charge of presiding the opening ceremony and Professor Cho Sung-Il gave the opening speech.

개회사에 이어서 양유석 중앙대학교 국가대전략연구소 소장과 전선애 국제대학원 원장이 환영사와 축사를 통해 전문통번역학과 개설 열 다섯 돌을 축하하면서, 학술대회 개최 취지와 의미를 강조하고 전문통번역학과의 미래 청사진을 제시하였다.

After that, Professor Yang Yoo-Suk and Professor Chun Sun-Eae gave their congratulatory speeches to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of AITP and they emphasized the original intention and meaning of this conference and proposed the blueprint for AITP's future.

본 행사인 제 1세션(13:30-16:00)에서는 진실희 전문통번역학과 한•영 전공 교수가 사회를 맡았다. 백권호 영남대학교 경영대학 및 글로벌차이나 연합전공 교수를 초청하여, “중국시장 진출 현지화”를 주제로 발표하였다. 경영학의 관점에서 현지화 전략 수립의 중요성을 살펴보는 시간이었다.

During the first session, Professor Jin Sil-Hee presided over this event. Professor Paek Kwon-Ho of Youngnam University was invited for a special lecture on localization to enter the Chinese market. He provided a great opportunity to understand the importance of establishing localization strategies from the perspective of business administration.

이어서, 로컬라이제이션 전문업체인 한셈EUG(HansemEUG)의 남보리 시니어 프로젝트 매니저가 연단에 올라 “로컬라이제이션은 협업의 세계”라는 주제로 로컬라이제이션 업계 생태계와 작업 전반에 대해 소개하였다.

And then, Nam Bo-Ri, a senior project manager of HanseumEUG, explained the concept of the ecosystem of the localization industry with the topic of "Localization is the world of coordination."

마지막으로 번역 및 로컬라이제이션 전문업체인 토인코퍼레이션(TOIN Corporation)에서 배수현 한국어 수석 링귀스트가 IT업계에 특화된 로컬라이제이션에 대해 발표를 하였다. IT 로컬라이제이션 실무에 대해서 현직자가 몸소 체험한 생생한 현장담을 들을 수 있는 시간이었다.

Finally, Bae Soo-Hyun, chief linguist of TOIN Corporation, made her presentation on IT industry-specialized localization. It was a great opportunity to listen to vivid stories about the work processes of IT localization.

제 2세션은 “CAU GSIS 졸업생 라운드 테이블”로, 사회에서 두각을 나타내고 있는 졸업생 대표 4인이 주제 발표를 한 후, ‘통번역의 현재와 미래 비전’에 대해 재학생들과 함께 자유롭고 허심탄회하게 의견을 나누는 시간을 가졌다. 

The second session was "Alumni's Round Table", and 4 representative alumni made a short presentation and had a candid conversation with students about the present and future of interpretation/translation.

마국진 국제대학원 원우회장이 사회를 맡고, 강희숙 마콤브릿지 대표(전문통번역학과 한•영 전공 1기), 이아름 중앙대 통역번역연구소 수석부장 및 프리랜서(한•러 전공 1기), 윤동섭 와이커뮤니케이션 대표(한•중 전공 8기)는 AI 시대에 기계번역의 위기 속에서 새로운 기회를 모색하고, 바람직한 통번역 인재상과 통번역의 미래 비전을 제시하였다. 해외출장으로 부득이하게 참석을 못한 최영훈 전 포스코건설 신사업팀장(글로벌 비즈니스 및 금융학과 06학번)은 영상 메시지로 발표를 대신하였다.

During this session, Kang Hee-Suk (CEO of Macom Bridge, 1st class of Korean-English major), Lee A-Reum (vice manager of CAU ITRI/freelancing interpreter, 1st class of Korean-Russian major), Yun Dong-Seop (CEO of Y Communication, 8th class of Korean-Chinese major) proposed the future vision of interpretation/translation under the treat of machine translation. Choi Young-Hoon missed the opportunity to participate in this session due to the unexpected business trip to overseas, and he sent his regard with his video message.

강희숙 대표는 대학원 재학 시절과 졸업 직후의 경험담을 유쾌하게 풀어내면서 후배들을 응원하였다. 통번역 에이전시 회사를 창립한 경영인의 관점에서, 통번역 시장의 변화에도 불구하고 최고의 통번역 인재상은 ‘노력하고 신뢰할 수 있는 통번역사’라는 사실은 변하지 않는다고 강조했다.  

CEO Kang Hee-Suk shared her own experiences and cheered students. From the perspective of the CEO who established an agency, she highlighted that the interpreters that every agency wants are the ones who make constant effort to become a reliable interpreter.

이아름 통역번역연구소 수석부장은 통번역 시장의 변화 흐름을 실제 업무 사례를 들어 설명하면서 앞으로 재학생들이 어떻게 통번역 역량을 갈고 닦아 나가야 할지 방향을 제시하였다. 중앙대학교 국제대학원을 졸업한 선배이자 모교에서 강의를 하고 있는 교육자로서 진솔한 이야기를 후배들과 공유하였다.

윤동섭 와이커뮤니케이션 대표는 에이전시를 설립하기까지의 과정과 통번역 시장에서 드문 남성 통번역사로서의 소회 등을 솔직하게 밝혀 큰 호응을 받았다.

Yun Dong-Seop, the CEO of Y Communication, shared his own story as a male interpreter and many students showed huge interest in his special lecture.

라운드테이블 후반부에는 재학생들로부터 받은 사전질문 및 현장 즉석 질문에 대한 답변을 하며 졸업생 선배들과 재학생 간 소통과 교류의 장을 가졌다.

At the end of this session, alumni received questions from students and gave their answers.

초청 전문가들과 국제대학원 교수진, 졸업생 및 재학생들은 화기애애한 분위기 속에서 기념사진을 촬영하는 것으로 학술대회는 성황리에 종료되었다.

한편, 학술대회 이후에는 국제대학원 전문통번역학과 개설 15주년을 축하하고자 국제대학원 원우회가 주관한 졸업생 초청 행사가 늦은 저녁까지 진행되었다.

By taking commemorative pictures, the conference ended successfully. Meanwhile, after the conference, a side event where alumni were invited was held as well.
